Along with the skin of the face and hands, the neck is one of the first places on the skin to show signs of aging.
The skin of the neck is affected by sun exposure, gravity, and the natural loss of collagen and elastin as we age. Increasingly, the skin of the neck is affected by positioning influenced by the use of technology – also known as “tech neck” or “text neck.”
All these factors contribute to horizontal neck wrinkles, vertical neck lines, and loose neck skin or crepey skin on the neck which may worsen with age.
Like the facial skin, the skin on the neck is exposed to the sun on a daily basis. However, it is common to inadvertently skip applying the proper skincare products to the skin of the neck.
While many people are caring for the skin of their faces with moisturizers, retinols, and SPFs, the skin of the neck is often forgotten about until neck lines and neck wrinkles are apparent.
Of course, aging itself isn’t bad. As we are always trying to look and feel our best, there are some steps we can take to maintain healthy skin as we age.
Facial cupping, body gua sha, and exercises and stretches may help smooth and tone the skin of the neck. To learn more about non-invasive ways to treat neck lines and neck wrinkles, check out this Frownies Blog post.
In addition to these techniques, Frownies Chin-Up is a mask infused with a serum with peptides.
Serums with peptides are considered the best cream for neck wrinkles. Peptides for skincare penetrate beyond the skin's surface and act at the skin's cellular level to improve the skin's tone, texture, and overall appearance.
What are peptides in skincare?
Polypeptides, or peptides, are short chains of amino acids. When linked together, polypeptides form proteins.
Peptides are naturally occurring in our bodies. Besides being an intermediate building block of proteins, peptides have a wide range of other functions within our cells. Peptides can act as enzymes, hormones, transporters, messengers, and even provide physical structure within the cells of our body.
Peptides for skincare are involved in promoting wound healing, enhancing the production of collagen and elastin, signaling cell turnover, decreasing inflammation, and down-regulating neurotransmitters.
While it was once thought that polypeptides would be too large to penetrate the outer layers of the skin, the power of certain peptides is now being harnessed as an ingredient in skincare products.
Research has shown topical application of certain peptides in skin care products can be extremely effective for improving the skin’s tone and texture.
There are three specific peptides for skincare included in the serum with peptides in Frownies Chin-Up: Oligopeptide-1, Copper Tripeptide-1, and Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1.
Copper Peptides in Skincare
Copper Tripeptide is a well studied and widely used peptide for skincare.
The benefits of copper peptides in skincare include:
- Copper peptides increase collagen and elastin production.
- Copper peptides increase the healing time of wounds.
- Copper peptides decrease inflammation.
- Copper peptides act as an antioxidant to protect the skin from free radical damage.
Research suggests that copper peptides in skincare improve the tone and texture of the skin. In studies of copper peptides, women report improved skin firmness and a more even skintone. Women also reported a decrease in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Copper peptides have been shown to increase the thickness of skin to improve the appearance of crepey skin on the neck and jawline.
Studies have shown that copper peptides in skincare may be more effective than other ingredients such as vitamin C, trentinoin, and retinol in increasing collagen production.
Oligopeptide-1
Oligopeptide is known as Epidermal Growth Factor. Oligopeptide is a signaling molecule to tell the cells of the body to increase cell synthesis or cell turnover.
Basically, when applied topically, oligopeptide communicates to the cells to regenerate at a faster rate. This cellular regeneration is important for wound healing – think any type of skin inflammation from an acne blemish to dry skin.
Oligopeptide may even improve the skin’s appearance since cell turnover tends to slow with age.
Studies of oligopeptide in skincare showed a decrease in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and minimized pore size.
Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1
Palmitoyl tripeptide is a peptide that specifically acts on collagen synthesis. While palmitoyl tripeptide acts in a similar manner to retinols, the peptide is gentler on the skin and better tolerated by most people without causing skin irritation or reactions.
In studies of topical application of palmitoyl tripeptide, there was an observed reduction in wrinkles including the length, depth, and number of wrinkles. Studies of palmitoyl tripeptide also show an increase in skin thickness and improved smoothness of the skin.
How to Apply Frownies Chin-Up
The Frownies Chin-Up is a soft cotton patch infused with a serum with peptides for skincare.
Smooth the Frownies Chin-Up over the target area, specifically the chin and jawline, as well as down the neck. Use one of the two sets of provided loops to secure the patch over the ears and wrap the loose ends around the neck, tying them behind your neck if you wish.
Leave the Frownies Chin-Up on for 15 to 30 minutes to allow the serum with peptides to absorb deep into the skin.
Alternatively, Frownies Chin-Up can be applied to the chest to target check lines and chest wrinkles.
In addition, use any serum with peptides left in the bottom of the package all over your face, neck, chest, and hands – the peptides for skincare are beneficial for improving tone and texture on all parts of the body!
Following your treatment with the Frownies Chin-Up for neck lines and neck wrinkles, make sure to apply a moisturizer with SPF prior to sun exposure to protect the skin on your neck from harmful UV radiation and photoaging.
Be sure to apply all moisturizers and SPF lotions in a gentle upward motion to combat the effects of gravity on loose skin of the neck.
